East End Film Festival #2 - El Último Elvis

The next event in my EEEF calendar was Armando Bo's phenomenal El Último Elvis (The Last Elvis). This beautifully crafted tale of obsession follows the life of delusional Elvis Presley impersonator Carlos Gutiérrez (delivered flawlessly on and off stage by real life impersonator John McInerny) who is forced to look after his daughter after his ex-wife is injured in an accident. Carlos and his daughter begin to develop a bond and the scenes that follow are a masterful portrayal of the enormity of human emotion. Ultimately though it seems that even the love for his daughter cannot overcome Carlos' desire to fulfil his destiny as he prepares for a big show and the trip of a lifetime. I don't want to give too much away here but this is a definite must see film with a riveting story, beautiful camera work and a stunning soundtrack courtesy of Mr McInery and The King!
